Turjános of Ócsa
<p class="Norml1" style="text-align: justify;"><span lang="FR">The 1,146-hectare area of Ócsa was added to the list of International wetlands in 1989.</span></p>
The Turjános is part of the Ócs Landscape Protection District, which is one of the last remnants of the extensive marshland between the Danube and the Tisza. The former Ice Age bed of the Danube, and the floodplain of the Danube before river regulation, formed a contiguous, vast expanse of wet, boggy, swampy area for a few centuries, which was called Turjánvidék. Nowadays, its botanical and zoological rarities and their values in the XIX. it is due to the permanent water flow that remained due to the ineffective drainage of the 19th century. Its entire area is characterized by mosaicism, i.e. the alternation of open waters, reed beds, meadows, forests, and steppe meadows, and traces of correspondingly alternating human activities.
The forests found here are the ancient forest types that were used in the past, and which have now largely been relegated to the background. The most valuable are the alder bogs, which are covered by water for most of the year, so the roots of the trees have support roots, which are popularly called "legged" alder.
Some of the bird species characteristic of the area are: great egret, gray heron, brown and ashy meadowlark, black stork, golden eagle, gypsy duck, little coot, pied bunting, red-legged sandpiper, kingfisher, reed thrush, little-eared warbler, crickets, reed warblers, etc.
